Nest Learning Thermostat
Learns your schedule over time and adjusts automatically. Google Home compatible. Suits households with a regular routine.
Heating controls Exeter
A smart thermostat lets you control your heating from your phone — turn it on before you get home, turn it off when you forget on the way out, and set a schedule that actually matches how you use the house. I supply and fit Nest, Hive, Tado, Honeywell and similar systems on existing boilers across Exeter and Devon.
I supply and wire up controls for the heating system you already run — this isn't boiler installation work.
Happy to confirm Gas Safe registration and insurance details when we arrange your visit.
Why upgrade your controls
On most systems, the payback in gas savings covers the cost of a smart thermostat within a couple of years. You stop heating an empty house, you control it from your phone when plans change, and your boiler runs more efficiently because it's only doing what it needs to.
Before I recommend anything, I'll check your current boiler and system wiring to confirm what's compatible. Some older boilers need a heat-link or relay to work with a smart thermostat; some don't. I'll tell you what applies to your setup.

Straightforward app and reliable connectivity. Works with any engineer — not just British Gas. Good if you want something simple to manage.
Geofencing feature adjusts heating based on your phone's location. Good for households where routines vary.
Multi-zone control if your system has zone valves or underfloor heating circuits. Long track record in commercial and domestic heating controls.
What smart controls can and can't do
A smart thermostat controls when your boiler fires and at what temperature. It doesn't change the boiler, the radiators, or the pipework. You'll notice a difference in running costs if you previously had a basic programmer or no programmer at all — because you'll stop heating an empty house by accident. If your system is already well set up and you're disciplined about timings, the saving is smaller.
What smart controls won't fix: a boiler that's inefficient, radiators that don't heat evenly, or a system with poor circulation. If those are the problems, a thermostat is the wrong tool. I'll tell you that honestly before you spend money on one.
Questions
Most modern combi boilers and system boilers are compatible with Nest, Hive and Tado. Older boilers — particularly those without a switched live terminal — may need an additional relay or heat-link to work properly. I check this before installation and include any necessary wiring in the quote.
Usually yes. Tell me the make and model when you call. Occasionally a system arrives without the right wiring accessories for a particular boiler type, in which case I'll source the right parts before visiting.
Typically one to two hours for a standard combi boiler with a single thermostat. Multi-zone systems with additional wireless radiator valves take longer. I'll give you a time estimate when we discuss the job.
Not necessarily, but it makes sense to know your boiler is in good order before spending money on controls. If your boiler hasn't been serviced recently and you're booking me for both jobs, I can do them in one visit.
All the thermostats I install have physical controls on the unit itself, so you can still operate your heating manually if the app or broadband is unavailable.
That depends on your household. Tado's geofencing suits households where people are in and out at irregular times. Nest suits households with a regular routine. Hive is straightforward and solid if you want something simple to manage. I'll ask about how you use your home and give you a recommendation rather than pushing the most expensive option.
