The fault comes before the part
I work out what's gone wrong before anything gets fitted. There's no sense in you paying for a component that had nothing to do with the breakdown.
Independent. Local. Straight-talking.
I've been working on gas boilers for more than 25 years. Most of that time was spent in Kent, where I traded as Thames Boilers. I've since moved to Devon and set up Exeter Boiler Repairs to do the same kind of work here: careful, honest heating engineering for homeowners and landlords who want a straight answer and a job done properly.

How I work
I'm Gas Safe registered, which is the legal requirement to work on gas appliances in the UK. I'm also G3 qualified for pressurised unvented cylinder work — a separate Building Regulations qualification that not all heating engineers hold. I carry £2 million public liability insurance.
What I do: boiler servicing, boiler fault-finding and repairs, unvented cylinder servicing and repairs, and smart heating control installation.
What I don't do: boiler installations, gas fires, hobs, cookers or central heating system installations. I stick to four jobs and know them inside out, rather than turning my hand to everything.
I try to be direct with customers. If I arrive and find a fault that's going to cost more to repair than the boiler is worth, I'll say so. I don't benefit from recommending new boilers — I don't install them — so I've got no reason to push you towards one. I'm on the tools myself: I don't send out sub-contractors. When you call me, you're speaking to the person who will be doing the work.
I work out what's gone wrong before anything gets fitted. There's no sense in you paying for a component that had nothing to do with the breakdown.
I'll talk you through what I've found and what your choices are in words you can actually follow — none of the jargon that makes a simple job sound like a saga.
Servicing, repairs, unvented cylinders and heating controls on the systems you've already got: that's my lot. If yours is due for replacement I'll send you to an installer, because I don't fit them, so there's no pitch in it for me.
A quick call sorts most things faster than anything else. I'm on 01392 321121, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
New to Exeter, not new to boilers
Exeter Boiler Repairs is a new business name in this area. The reviews on this site are from my previous work in Kent under Thames Boilers. I've been transparent about that on the reviews page. As I build a client base in Exeter, Topsham, Crediton and the surrounding area, local reviews will follow. In the meantime, the best indicator of how I work is what previous customers have said.
These reviews are from Thames Boilers — George's previous Kent business — shown while Exeter Boiler Repairs builds its own local review profile. They are not presented as Exeter customer reviews.
